Русия призна независимостта на двата грузински сепаратистки региона Абхазия и Южна Осетия.
Припомняме, вчера Горната камара на руския парламент единодушно одобри призив към президента Дмитрий Медведев да признае независимостта на Абхазия и Южна Осетия.
"Това не е лек избор, ное единствена възможност да се опази живота на хората", каза Дмитрий Медведев в телевизионно обръщение, в което съобщава решението си да подпише указа.
Грузия отвърна:

"Отчитайки свободната воля на осетинския и абхазкия народ, ръководейки се от положенията в Устава на ООН, от декларацията то 1970 година за принципите на международното право, която касае приятелските отношения между държавите от Хелзинкския договор и други основни международни документи, подписах указа за признаването на независимостта на Южна Осетия и Абхазия от страна на Руската федерация" мотивира решението си Медведев.
В изказването си Медведев припомня, че западните държави вече са създали подобен прецедент, признавайки независимостта на Косово.
"В нощта на 8 август в Тбилиси направи своя избор. Саакашвили избра геноцида като средство да разреши своите политически задачи", добавя руският президент.
"Русия призовава и другите държави да признаят независимостта на Абхазия и Южна Осетия", каза Медведев.
След официалното обръщение на руския президент в Сочи започна заседание на Съвета за сигурност на Руската федерация. То ще бъде ръководено от Дмитрий Медведев. Член на съвета е и бившият президент и настоящ премиер Владимир Путин.
